Tree Surgeon Services Near You

Tree Felling ImageTurneys were established in 1982 and are vastly experienced, tree surgeons and arborists.

Operating in both the public and private sectors, our clients often ask us to determine whether their trees are safe and with our experience we know that there is actually no such thing as a safe tree.

What we will do is provide an assessment of the current condition of the trees and give an opinion as to the next steps that should be undertaken. Find out more by reading our page ‘What does a tree surgeon do?

We offer a complete tree surgery and so the things we can help you with are;

Tree Assessment

When we look and assess trees we will look at not just the trunk and branches but also the roots and the area around the tree to ensure that we do not miss anything.

ROOTS

Tree Surgeon Image MixThe root system requires adequate space in which to grow as they can structurally and biologically support the tree. Damaged or severed roots will often lead to an unstable tree and this is a common problem after new construction work.

Rotten or diseased roots are another leading cause for tree failure and at Turneys we always look for signs of fungal growth on the trunk or on the roots.

Fill dirt which is commonly used on new construction sites, is another issue which can cause root decline or failure.

Our teams check for cracks in the soil around the tree, as this may indicate the tree is heaving. This is a potential danger as heaving trees represent a high risk of failure.

Roots which circle around the trunk of the tree are called girdling roots. These roots can impede the flow of water, oxygen and nutrients from the root system to the trunk. The effect of this could lead the tree to decline and subsequently could result in the death of the tree.

TRUNK AND BRANCHES

Internal decay to the trunk can be hard to detect. Sometimes the root flare will appear bulbous and swollen and this may indicate decay or disease.

Our tree surgeons will examine the tree for any cracks or hollow areas in either the trunk or the branches. These areas could well be the signs of the tree splitting apart and could represent serious failure concerns.

Further up the tree structure, thick canopies may catch the wind like a sail. This can put tremendous stress on the root systems, trunk and branches which could lead to structural failure.

Our Recommendation

We always recommend that trees should be regularly assessed and inspected.

Dangerous conditions are not always easily detected so at Turneys we are more than happy to assess and advise our clients on the condition of their trees.
